BrewDog to launch a week-long tap takeover showcasing the best brews to come out of Yorkshire beer scene

BrewDog, the irreverent Scottish craft brewery, will next week play host to a Yorkshire brewery tap hijack in its Sheffield bar. The takeover is celebrating the huge contribution Yorkshire has made to the industry at a time when the UK is seeing massive excitement and growth in the craft beer movement.

  • BrewDog Sheffield offers a wide range of beer from both the Scottish outfit as well as hand-picked, world-renowned brews.
  • For this one-off event, the craft beer haven will showcase a selection of ten of the most interesting breweries from all corners of Yorkshire, supplying fifteen of its most badass beers on tap.
  • The homage to local independents will kick off from Monday 2nd May and run until Sunday 8th May, giving locals a week to join the celebration of brews from their region.
  • BrewDog has long been a champion of independent micro-breweries, from grassroots home brewing to providing a platform for up and coming brew houses in its bars and bottle shops.
  • The tap takeover comes weeks after BrewDog released brew bible DIY Dog which detailed every single one of its beer recipes, present and future, scaled down to home brew proportions – a move calculated to invigorate the home brewing scene.
  • BrewDog Sheffield launched in March 2015, located at 108-110 Devonshire Street. It is one of BrewDog’s three Yorkshire bars, alongside BrewDog Leeds and ShuffleDog, also in Leeds. The brewery is set to launch a venue in York this year as well.

QUOTATIONS

BrewDog co-founder, James Watt said:

“BrewDog prides itself on championing delicious craft beer whether it be ours or someone else’s, and Sheffield and the wider Yorkshire region have a historically rich and awesome beer scene. We’ve handpicked an incredible lineup of ten of the best Sheffield and Yorkshire breweries to join us on our mission to get artisanal beer into the hands of as many people as possible.”

BrewDog co-founder, James Watt continued:

“BrewDog is supported by an army of 42,000 Equity for Punk shareholders, many of them hailing from Yorkshire. We wanted to show our appreciation and give back to the booming beer scene by showcasing some of the finest examples of craft beer to come out of the region. We recently held our mayhem-infused AGM, where we changed the BrewDog constitution with a vow to never sell out to a big, faceless purveyor of monolithic bland beer. It’s more important than ever to stick two fingers up at beer giants who are trying to commoditise craft, and pull the wool over peoples’ eyes. Long live craft beer.”

Richard Burhouse, Founder and Managing Director of Magic Rock Brewing

“Yorkshire has always had a vibrant beer scene but it really seems to have exploded in the last few years. Whereas in the past, good beer was the preserve of the initiated, it now seems to be seeping into mainstream consciousness. We get a really varied demographic of customer at our taproom, young and old, male and female and they love exploring beer and trying new flavours. We really didn’t expect the local public to embrace what we’re doing as much as they have, and we’re excited to feature in BrewDog Sheffield’s Yorkshire tap takeover!”

Iain Kenny, Director of North Union Brewing Co:

“The beer scene in Yorkshire and Sheffield is getting stronger; we are slowly but surely working past the traditional flat cap and whippet view of Yorkshire beer and the beer scene is very vibrant with a range of exciting styles coming from very passionate producers. To have some of the top Yorkshire brewers under one roof for a week will be a great way of showcasing this progress.”

Chris Waplington, Co-Founder of Bad Seed Brewery:

“Yorkshire has some of the most exciting breweries in the craft beer scene at the moment - plus the bar scene is so vibrant as well. York, Leeds and Sheffield have well-established bars offering beers from artisan independent breweries - with Harrogate, Hull and Huddersfield all with a growing audience. It's an electrifying time to be part of the craft beer movement and celebrate what Yorkshire has to offer!”
